Marimecs: "Creators of Exploration Hardware" We thoroughly enjoy developing long range cruising yachts, versatile as they are. Our philosophy about the design of explorer yachts is simple: “They should be comfortable at sea, have a pleasant and liveable interior with much storage, be sturdy, have a long range, be technically sound and environmental friendly to ensure a worriless independency in remote areas. Owners of explorer yachts often have vast experience at sea and exact ideas and demands. As we all know each ship is unique in itself and depending on the use of the yacht, the design will be developed in a certain direction according to the design brief of the owner. The focus can be on a much extended range, sometimes supported by unconventional innovative solutions such as a kite. Travelling in ice and cold weather conditions can be a special factor as well. Another option is to design the yacht as a diving mother ship including moon-pool and diving store to accommodate professional expeditions. Most explorer yachts will be equipped with various tenders and toys, such as small submarines, jet skis, sailing dinghies and helicopter or water plane storage, all requiring a specialised approach to naval architecture, and a keen eye for design to simultaneously ensure an attractive profile. |

Blue Water Explorer. A new range of Explorer Yachts Rainsford Mann Design and Stolk Marimecs have joined forces to design a new range of Explorer Yachts developed especially for owners from the emerging markets. The range will feature a 35, 45 and 60m yacht and has been strategically designed using simple building techniques specifically for low cost manufacture by emerging markets’ shipyards such as in China, India, Ukraine and South America. The styling is modern, functional and robust with the focus on a wide bodied vessel with large interior volume and excellent sea keeping, coupled with long range ability and self sustainability for long periods at sea. Much work has gone in to developing a very fuel efficient hull, which is ice-reinforced. With hybrid propulsion systems, utilising both solar and wind technology. www.rmd-marine.com / www.marimecs.com |

124 ft MY “Northlander” The Moonen 124 NORTHLANDER evolved several years ago out of a preliminary design for a Moonen 120. At the time, the Moonen 120 was to be the largest of a new displacement series to be built by Moonen Shipyards. When the hull was stretched to 124 ft, as the design evolved with the client’s valued input, Stolk Marimecs recalculated the naval architectural features and designed the hull with its new length and displacement specifications. Performance : During sea trials, Northlander exceeded her design specifications with a measured top speed of 14.5 knots. At cruising speed her fuel economy was also better than predicted, and so her range at cruising exceeded expectations. Her sound-level measurements were remarkable, with as little as 33 dB(A) measured in the owners’ and guest suites, and even lower in the crew quarters, at anchor with one genset running. Underway, with main engines running from 1430 rpm to 1845 rpm, the owners’ suite measured a still remarkable 44dB(A) to 54 dB(A). |

Monaco Yacht Show (2009) : Inspirational Last Monaco Yacht Show, as every year, we presented new concepts and displayed completed projects. Moonen yachts "My Issue" and "Northlander" were docked in Port Hercules; it is always a pleasure to be able to show people the physical result of our work. Also, the new Black GT Poweryacht concept, in cooperation with Beyond Design, was revealed. We will keep you updated on more details on this the coming year. In a nutshell, it was a successful show for us. We catched up with many contacts and met new people with new ideas. The show provided enough inspiration and underlined our expectation of more exciting developments in 2010! Tiny Stolk (right): "Big thanks to the organisation and all participators who made this another enjoyable and productive week in Monaco, and see you next time!" |
