Design completed for new Het Schouw ferry
The design of the new electric cable ferry for the Het Schouw Landsmeer crossing has been completed, marking the next step in the replacement of the current ferry.
Marimecs was responsible for the naval architecture and engineering of the new ferry. The completed design has now formed the technical basis for the public tender issued by the Province of North Holland for the construction and installation of the ferry and its associated shore facilities
Design features
The new ferry will have an overall length of approximately 18 metres and a maximum load capacity of 12 tonnes. With a larger deck, the ferry is designed to accommodate three modern cars, while also providing space for cyclists and pedestrians.
Sustainability has been an important part of the design. Like the current ferry, the new ferry will be fully electrically powered. Its batteries will be charged from shore power, while solar panels on the wheelhouse roof will provide additional charging during the day.
