Expanding Operational Capabilities for Multicat Diablo

Jun 8, 2026

Operational requirements evolve over time, and vessels often need to adapt alongside them. For the Multicat Diablo, owned by TB Waterwerk, the objective was clear: broaden the vessel’s operational range and unlock new opportunities in offshore support activities.

+15 nautical miles

Marimecs carried out a complete reassessment of the vessel to support a new stability calculation, allowing the Multicat to operate up to 20 nautical miles offshore instead of the previous 5 nautical mile limitation.

With its 75 m² deck space, 60-tonne deck capacity and heavy-duty deck equipment, Diablo is well suited for a broad range of offshore support activities. The vessel can transport and position pontoons, supply equipment and materials to offshore projects, support dredging and marine construction operations, and assist with anchor handling and logistical activities at offshore work sites.

New assessment

Throughout the vessel’s operational life, several modifications and upgrades had already been implemented, including accommodation improvements and additional equipment installations. To establish an accurate basis for the new assessment, Marimecs carried out detailed onboard measurements and translated all modifications into an updated construction package and 3D model.

These measurements confirmed that previous modifications had been carried out with a strong and future-oriented structural approach. As a result, only limited refinements were required to fully align the vessel with the updated operational requirements.

Inclining test

To validate the calculations and vessel characteristics, Marimecs engineers also performed the inclining test themselves, ensuring the required data accurately reflected the vessel’s current condition.

Modification results

Projects like Diablo demonstrate that expanding or refining a vessel’s operational profile does not necessarily require major structural changes. Whether the goal is to extend operational areas, adapt to new tasks, or prepare a vessel for future requirements, a detailed engineering assessment can unlock additional value from an existing asset.
