Catamaris specializes in crafting timeless, elegant, and sturdy aluminium catamarans, offering both motor and sailing variants. Marimecs stands as a key partner in this joint venture, serving as the naval architect for the Catmar Explorer line, featuring sailing and motor catamarans ranging from 57 to 78 feet. Our collaboration ensures the creation of semi-custom and full-custom designs tailored to the unique ideas and needs of our clients.

Under construction

The latest addition to the Catmar fleet, the Catmar Explorer 72, is currently under construction at the Dijkstra Jachtbouw shipyard in Harlingen, the Netherlands. This certified shipyard specializes in aluminium yachts and workboats.

Blue-water catamaran

Each of our blue-water catamarans is engineered to meet the highest standards, enabling them to navigate waters with the most stringent environmental regulations, earning them the distinction of true explorer yachts. Furthermore, they significantly contribute to reducing emissions during operation.

Our commitment to environmental sustainability is evident in various aspects of our design:
• Engines, gensets, and equipment comply with stringent EU standards for CO2 emissions.
• Optional hybrid diesel-electric propulsion systems are available for further reduction of CO2 emissions.

Currently, the Catmar Explorer 72 is undergoing interior finishing at the shipyard. Work includes the installation of engines, generators, air conditioning, navigation equipment, laboratory facilities for marine research, kitchen fittings, and bathrooms.

Alongside interior fittings, the completed furniture will be installed starting this month. As soon as the catamaran is launched, the mast will be erected, sails trimmed, and sails delivered.

Our commitment to sustainability extends to the materials used in construction, emphasizing recyclability:

  • Hulls and superstructure built of certified aluminium
  • All components made of stainless steel (Inox)
  • Engines, gearboxes, shafts, propellers, generators, water makers
  • Cork for deck coverings
  • Furniture construction, upholstery, safety glazing of the windows, fireproof insulation of aluminium hulls und superstructure
  • Rig and sails: mast, boom, shrouds, spreaders. The new, fully recyclable „ONE“ sails certified with the ISO 14040 life cycle assessment.

Sea trials

The completion of the Catmar Explorer 72 is anticipated in the summer of 2024. Following this, a period of four weeks will be dedicated to sea trials, familiarization, and trimming before the yacht embarks on its maiden voyage to the Canary Islands in September.
