A new rudder can change more than your course

At Marimecs, we provide rudder and aft ship optimization services for both newbuilds and existing vessels. Using CFD simulations, we analyse how these components interact. By visualising flow patterns, pressure distribution and hydrodynamic forces, we can identify where improvements can be made.

For existing vessels, this can reveal opportunities without requiring major modifications. A redesigned rudder and relatively small changes to the existing configuration can sometimes result in significant improvements in performance and efficiency.

And that is where it gets interesting. The designed upgrades can often be installed during scheduled dry dock maintenance. From that moment, the investment starts paying back through lower fuel consumption and improved efficiency, for example by achieving the same vessel speed at lower RPM. But improved comfort for the crew through reduced vibration is also one of the benefits this service can provide.
